How to film reel content
Whilst we will always endeavour to capture compelling reel content for you, we can’t always be in venue to capture the special moments.
We’ve created a guide for you on how to shoot compelling content, which we can then edit to create your next impressive reels.
Remember, reels cut together short video that are typically less than 1 second long - so don’t be afraid to experiment, we’ll turn it into something amazing!
Useful tips & tricks
Capture close-ups and details
Capture close-ups of dishes and drinks to showcase textures and details
Use a macro lens or the close-up feature on your camera to show intricate details like garnishes or bubbles in a drink.

Experiment with different angles
Add visual interest by experimenting with different angles such as shooting from above, at eye level, or even from below.
Highlight unique perspectives with close-ups and wide shots to capture the entire scene.
GO SLOW
Quick moving video can easily make the viewer nauseous, don’t be afraid to slow down your shots.
Track from left to right, from right to left, from far away to close up - just not all of the above at once!
A clever trick is to shoot a static focal point (i.e. a drink, a dish or a floral arrangement) and let the background be the only thing in motion.

Think “Less Is More”:
Keep the frame uncluttered and avoid overcrowding with too many elements. This allows the viewer to focus on the food or drink.
Choose a clean and neutral background to avoid distractions from the main focus—the food or drink.
Consider using plain tabletops, rustic wooden surfaces, or clean countertops to create an aesthetically pleasing backdrop.

Show Food in Action:
Capture dynamic moments during food preparation, such as flipping a pancake, drizzling sauce, sizzling in a pan, shaping the pizza…
Highlight the precise moment a knife slices through a steak or a pour of sauce as it cascades onto a plate

LIGHTING IS KEY!
Good lighting is essential to make the colours pop. Prefer shooting in natural light or using flash if it’s at night.
Add a human element
Do not hesitate to include someone’s hand or arm to create a sense of presence for the viewer, as if the photo has been captured from their point of view.
Capture your staff preparing or serving food and film them in action without looking at the camera.
Try not to shift your own position as you shoot them.
Film reactions of customers enjoying your food or drinks. This adds authenticity and relatability to your content.
